Deze dag keek ik mee met de specialisten van de Brånemark kliniek. Deze kliniek zit in het gebouw van de Odontologen maar zij werkt onafhankelijk van de universiteit.
In de ochtend keek ik mee met de specialisten in kroon, brug en prothesewerk.
Hierbij zag ik hoe zij, op de door de chirurgen van de kliniek geplaatste implantaten, voorzieningen maakten zoals een implantaat gedragen bovenprothese en een volledig protheses die extra retentie krijgt van een barconstructie op implantaten. Ook zag ik hoe zij protheses aanpasten met een soft reliner voor patiënten die net een behandeling ondergaan hadden.
In de middag mocht ik aanwezig zijn bij de patiëntbespreking van de specialisten. Hierbij zag ik patiënten besproken worden met ernstig gemutileerde dentities, waarbij behandelplannen werden doorgenomen om deze patiënten volledig te rehabiliteren. Ik vond het indrukwekkend om te zien hoe uitgebreid deze behandelplannen waren. In extreme gevallen betrof dit een volledig extractie van de dentitie om vervolgens een volledige outwash van de paropathogenen te bewerkstellingen, waarna de mond voorzien wordt van implantaat gedragen prothetische constructies.
Volgend op deze bespreking hadden de specialisten in opleiding een behandelplan bespreking, op het ACTA beter bekend als een DIB (diagnose, indicatie, behandelplan). De patiëntpresentaties hadden dezelfde opbouw als onze DIB presentaties en het was leerzaam om hun plan van aanpak te zien. Het behaalde eindresultaat was erg mooi.
Er heerste een aangename sfeer in de kliniek en ik vond het bijzonder om mee te mogen kijken in de befaamde Brånemark kliniek.

The Brånemark Clinic
This day I followed the specialists of the Brånemark clinic. This clinic is in the building of the Odontologen but it operates independently of the university.
In the morning I watched the specialists in the field of crown, bridge and denture work.
Here I saw how they made implant supported dentures and how they made a full prosthesis that has additional retention from an implant supported bar construction. These constructions were made on the implants placed by the surgeons of the clinic. I also saw how they adapted prostheses with a soft reliner for patients who just had undergone treatment.
In the afternoon I was present at the patient's discussion by the specialists. Here I saw patients with severely mutilated dentitions being discussed, where they took by the patient treatments to fully rehabilitate these patients. I found it impressive to see how extensive these treatment plans were. In extreme cases this involved full extraction of the dentition as to achieve a full outwash of periodontal pathogens, after which the mouth is provided with implant-supported prosthetic constructions.
Following this discussion the specialists in the training had a treatment plan review, at the ACTA known as a DIB (diagnosis, indication, treatment). The patient presentations had the same structure as our DIB presentations and it was instructive to see their plans of treatment. The end result was very nice.
There was a pleasant atmosphere in the clinic and I found it very special to be able to visit the famous Brånemark clinic.
