Deze week heb ik meegelopen met specialist Dr. P. Jonasson van de afdeling endodontologie. Hij is verantwoordelijk voor het onderwijs aan de specialisten, hij behandelt patiënten en hij handelt alle verwijzingen naar de afdeling af en hij doet onderzoek.
Tijdens de patiëntenbehandelingen kon ik, via een beeldscherm dat aangesloten was op zijn endomicroscoop, tot in de kleinste details, met de operaties meekijken. Ik heb toen veel bijzondere behandelingen gezien, zoals hemisectie, retrograde wortelkanaal behandeling, herbehandeling van een complex kanaalsysteem en een retrograde wortelkanaalbehandeling met parodontale regeneratie.
Zijn onderzoeken gaan respectievelijk over revascularisatie van tanden en initiële retrograde wortelkanaalbehandelingen in de bovenkaak.
Halverwege de week heb ik deelgenomen aan een klein experiment van hem. In dit experiment heb ik de mogelijkheid gekregen om de drie meest gebruikte wortelkanaal vijlsystemen uit te proberen. Het betrof ProTaper, GTX en BioRaCe. Alvorens ik het uit kon proberen, moest ik eerst de documentatie doornemen en ik kreeg een duidelijk, door hem zelf gemaakt, instructiefilmpje te zien. Na de oefening werd mij gevraagd welk systeem ik het gemakkelijkst te gebruiken vind en welk systeem ik het beste resultaat vind hebben. Helaas beheers ik de besproken “brush” en “pump” techniek voor correct werken met de vijlsystemen nog niet. Ondanks dat vind ik dat de in plastic geprepareerde kanalen de minste warmteproductie laten zien en het schoonste zijn bij ProTaper, gevolgd door BioRaCe. Ik vind het prettig dat ik deze systemen uit heb mogen proberen, aangezien ik op het ACTA alleen met het GT systeem heb gewerkt. Ik ga me in de toekomst nog verdiepen in de “brush” en “pump” techniek om zo ook adequaat met de andere vijlsystemen te kunnen werken.
Veel van het endodontologisch onderwijs vindt plaats binnen de afdeling. Er is daar ook een laboratorium met Frasaco hoofden om op te oefenen. Verder maakt de afdeling veel duidelijke video opnames van behandeltechnieken voor studenten en plaatst ze deze in hoge kwaliteit op het digitale onderwijssysteem.
Aan het eind van de week werd er in het seminarium een live behandeling op een groot videoscherm getoond waarbij ik aanwezig mocht zijn. Dit betrof een onderzoek naar een nieuwe onderwijsvorm. Daarbij werd gekeken of er een verschil is in overdracht van kennis wanneer er met video opnames, dan wel met live uitzendingen gewerkt wordt. Ik behoorde tot de groep die de live uitzending te zien kreeg.
Mijn verblijf op de afdeling endodontologie heb ik als erg leerzaam ervaren en de mensen waren er zeer vriendelijk en hadden veel passie voor hun werk. Als ACTA studentenraadslid heb ik veel mooie ontwikkelingen gezien die voor het ACTA een voorbeeld zouden kunnen zijn.
Department of Endodontics
This week I followed specialist Dr. P. Jonasson of the Department of Endodontics. He is responsible for the education of the specialists, he treats patients, he acts on all references to the department and also he is doing research.
When treating patients with surgery, I could watch through a monitor that was connected to his endo microscope and so I could see the smallest details. I have seen a lot of special treatments then, such as hemisection, retrograde root canal treatment, retreatment of a complex canal system and a retrograde root canal therapy with periodontal regeneration.
Respectively, his studies focus on revascularization of teeth and initial retrograde root canal treatment in the maxilla.
Halfway through the week, I participated in a small experiment by him. In this experiment, I have been given the opportunity to try out, the three most common root canal file systems. It concerned the ProTaper, GTX and the BioRaCe. Following the practice, I was asked which system I find the easiest to use and which system, I think, gave the best results. Unfortunately, I yet don’t control the discussed "brush" and "pump" techniques to work correctly with the file systems. Despite that, I think that channels prepared in plastic, show the least heat production and are the cleanest when prepared with ProTaper, followed by BioRaCe. I like it that I have been able to try out these systems, since I've been working on the ACTA only with the GT system. In the future I will try to obtain the skills of the "brush" and "pump" technique, in order to be able to work adequate with the other file systems.
Much of the endodontologic education takes place within this section of the department of Odontology. There's also a laboratory with Frasaco heads to practice on. Further more the department makes many clear video recordings of treatment techniques for students and places them in a high quality on the digital education system.
At the end of the week, there was a live treatment shown on a large video screen in the seminary, at which I was allowed to be present. This involved an investigation into a new form of education. The researchers examined whether there is a difference in the transfer of knowledge when working with a video recording compared to when working with live broadcasts. I was among the group who got to see the live broadcast.
My stay in this department of Endodontics, I experienced as very informative and the staff and students were very friendly and they have a great passion for their work. As a student council member of the ACTA, I have seen many nice developments here, which could be an example for the ACTA.
